Spring Digital Detox: A Simple Plan to Unplug & Spend Time Offline

This May, thousands across the Netherlands are stepping away from their screens.

The second edition of Mei Social Vrij is underway — a month-long challenge encouraging people to take a digital detox, unplug from social media, and rediscover the joy of living offline. Last year, nearly 1,500 people joined. While not everyone made it through all 30 days, 64% completed the challenge, and 41% said it was easier than expected.

That quiet shift tells us something:

We’re tired of the noise —
 craving something slower —
and maybe, deep down, we’re already halfway there.

Why Unplugging Is So Hard — And Why We Keep Scrolling Anyway

If you’ve ever blamed yourself for too much scrolling, stop.

It’s not a lack of willpower — it’s the way things are built.

Social platforms are designed to keep you scrolling — endlessly. Every detail is intentional: the colors, the infinite scroll, the autoplay, the way content is curated just for you. Each swipe might bring something funny, emotional, shocking — or nothing at all. That unpredictability triggers dopamine, the brain’s reward chemical, and trains you to keep checking.

What starts as a five-minute check-in can quickly become a 45-minute blur. And over time, the cost adds up:

In stepping away from the feed, we step into something quieter, more grounded — a moment that belongs to us.

Offline living supports mental clarity, deeper relationships, better sleep, and creative restoration —

not by demanding stillness, but by making it feel possible again.

  • Mental fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • A constant sense of being “on”
  • Less time for what truly matters

But design can also do the opposite.

At Glimmery Moments, we believe design can help you unhook.

Our stationery is intentionally quiet — soft palettes, thoughtful layouts, tactile textures — created to invite you into slower habits and more intentional days.

Design got us here. But it can also guide us back.

Digital Detox facts - What Happens When You Unplug

Choosing to go offline doesn’t mean giving something up.

It means getting something back.

  • Your mood lifts. People often report feeling calmer, more present, and emotionally lighter.
  • You stop comparing. Without curated feeds, you reconnect with your own life.
  • You find your focus. Less distraction means more creativity and deeper work.
  • You deepen relationships. Conversations stretch. Moments feel fuller.
  • You live slower — and with more care.

The Joy of Time Offline — and Why This Matters to Us

That’s why we started Glimmery Moments.

Because going offline is easier when something meaningful is waiting for you there.

For us, it began with the joy of receiving real mail — that unmistakable feeling when a handwritten note lands in your letterbox. In a digital world, it feels rare. Personal. Worth holding onto.

We believe paper can carry what your phone can’t — a quiet nudge back to presence, connection, and intention.

Every product we make is rooted in that belief:

A card becomes a conversation.

A planner becomes a pause.

A note becomes a memory that travels — across distance, and through time.

  • Instead of scrolling, write.
  • Instead of reacting, reflect.
  • Instead of watching moments, make one.

Let paper bring you home to what matters.

Rooted in Love A Collection with Heart & Soul

This season, our design palette reflects the soft bloom of early spring and the open warmth of summer.
But more than that, it reflects a way of living —with intention, with feeling, and with connection at its core.

So yes, our stationery is beautiful.
But it’s also sustainable. Biophilic. Quietly minimalist.

Share Moments that will last a life-time

When you choose to share a handwritten note, you’re not just sending a message—you’re sending a small, beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most profound connections are found in the simplest acts.
